Trade Show Lessons

Trade shows are a great way to market your business and there are numerous to choose from. Be sure that the show you choose will attract your primary target audience, is within your marketing budget, and that the show organizer has a decent marketing plan.

If you are going to be making a significant investment in a trade show, it’s a good idea to consider how you’ll create awareness among prospective buyers in your contact list. There are sponsorships available with most show organizers or you can create a marketing campaign targeted to a desirable group of prospects to let them know you’re going to be there.

Make sure you have lots of lead time to create the marketing materials you’ll need such as banners, sales kits, and other promotional pieces. You’ll likely be competing with large companies that have spared no expense on giveaways that are sure to be crowd pleasers.

In addition to stacking your booth with enough sales kits, it’s also a good idea to think about how you will staff the booth. In my experience, visitors seem to come in groups so it’s a good idea to have extra pairs of hands to help out.

Are you a small business owner that is doing the same thing week to week and getting the same results? I recently met a woman who made this comment to me and said that she just didn’t know how to get out of this rut. If you’re stuck and don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel, you need to read this.

Shake up your routine by meeting a friend for lunch. If you own a home-based business you are probably spending too much time surrounded by the same four walls. Put on your power suit and get out of the house for the afternoon.
Take an exercise class at the community centre. Exercise is a great way to relieve some stress.
Practice 10 minutes of meditation daily. Any form of meditation, tai chi, martial arts or yoga will increase your focus and you will get tasks done faster.
Reduce your caffeine intake. Caffeine is a stimulant and too much of it can lead to depression and moodiness.
Pick up a good book. When you’re stuck it’s a good idea to look to experts in the areas where you may be struggling. There are lots of great business books to choose from.
